The Power of Thought: Conquering Your Mind - WSLT#2
What I learnt today - some of the techniques mentioned in "The Power of Your subconscious mind".
The Passing-Over Technique
The passing-over technique - it explains how a thought in conscious mind steep into subconscious mind and become fruitful. Like, if you want to do something, you need self confidence to do that and then have to plan for it, then you proceed to execute it.
An Example?
This is a straight forward approach. In the starting of a financial year, I know my yearly income, so I can plan how I want to spend or save. Since I know my salary definitely, my conscious mind which is very good at rationalizing and calculating, it can come up with an idea of how much I can save, then it will come up with a plan. Then I will execute it.
Pros and Cons
The pros of this technique is, we only seed what we can rationalize and believe in our conscious mind. So no extra methods are needed to make subconscious mind believe, because we are seeding what conscious mind already believes.
What I believe is, everyone of us, unknowingly use this method to seed our believes into our subconscious mind. But what we miss to do is, not filtering the thoughts. Through our conscious mind, we not only seed good thoughts, but also plant bad thoughts.
The fear of failure, the anxiety we face, the doubt whether we succeed, all of these are seeded into the subconscious mind. So the main thing in this technique is, we should filter our thoughts.
Sounds easy, but have you ever tried to filter or suppress any thought to not linger in mind? Let me tell you a small story,
Story Time
In ancient times, there was a fake doctor in a village. He was able to deceit the people through his intelligent methods. For example, if someone came to see him for stomach pain, he would give him a medicine, obviously it would not have any good or bad effect. But while giving medicine, as an instruction, he would tell "You have to take this thrice a day. You should avoid diary products. One important condition is, while consuming this medicine you should not think about elephant. If you think, it wont be effective. then dont blame me".
Then the patient unknowingly think about elephant every time he saw that medicine and he would blame himself for not following the instructions properly. The story goes on how he got caught when a genuine doctor came. But the important getaway from this story is, if you want to suppress a thought it will come stronger.
Thought Purification
So in my opinion, this method is suitable for people who can control their thoughts or for the people in the journey of purifying their thoughts. Even though its tough, its not impossible.
There are so many methods in various cultures to purify the thoughts.
- Gratitude – Japanese Arigato Technique
- Mindfulness – Practicing Zen
- Stoicism – Not worrying about what’s beyond our control
Once you start practicing anyone of them to filter your negative thoughts, it not only help you to use the passing-over technique, it may help you to get more benefits such as being calm in any situation, accepting and reflecting instead of guilt ridden past, having more gratitude and being humble.
Overtime, the small victories you get because of the technique will also boost your conscious mind to believe more and make your subconscious mind to act more for your progress.
WSLT:
In essence what i reflected today is, the pass-by technique may look as simple, but it is also one of the toughest but if achieved through hard work, one of the fruitful technique. The mind control is the main part once the mind conquered it is the easiest of all.
So WSLT #2 ends here. Whats your thoughts? Are you already have strong mind control or in progress to attain one? Share your comments and methods if you have any.
